1. Set Up for LONG TERM
One of the key things about this game is Population. If you plan on being a badass player, you need to get your population up high and fast.
Once you have your hideout and a warehouse at decent levels, focus on your townhall. This means, upgrading it and the other buildings to make it more effective. Never have 0 growth.
Upgrade Townhall, then upgrade your museum and taverns to go with it. Once you notice Townhall is about to max capacity, upgrade it again and then upgrade your museum and tavern too.
In your spare time, continue upgrading other things such as: acadamy, hideout, walls, tradepost, tradeport, barracks.
Barracks and troop building is important but you dont want a huge army till you're able to support it. Otherwise you will struggle for gold later on. Building a strong foundation is more important and will enable you to become a better player.
2. RESOURCES AND TIME MANAGEMENT
"Time is money"
We have all just about heard that starement. Give yourself pillaging crews in each city and space your cities out a bit. Instead of wasting time transfering resources (such as wine) to your other cities, PILLAGE INACTIVE WINE CITIES. You will find yourself with larger amounts of wine and other resources to boot. You want to always give your cities those valuable resources to improve (unless you are selling something for a higher return) not spreading them all around. What you have, a neighbor will most likely have too. Take away from them to make yourself stronger. This after all is a war game.g
For example, say you have 5 cities, and one wine city, you will have to firstly make sure you are earning a fair amount of wine in the one city, and then have to constantly distribute it throughout your other cities. You could be spending that time hitting a closer wine city and getting it that way, getting more than you would have if you had just transported it. Now you have more than enough to last you for a bit on top of other resources to boot. If you have excess resources, you can sell them for more gold and get more transporters or just stock up. You will want to space your cities a little further apart to give you more people to pillage. Make sure you have higher hideouts and atleast one ship to better protect yourself then.
Once you are able to start focusing on troops, make sure your gov residence/palace has an extra spot for one more city. This will be your war city slot. Being able to move your troops to a friend's city is cool but you always want a city of your own as close as possible. To not do this means further travel time, and more time and gold wasted.You say, well I'll be moving troops anyways and it'll take a while so meaning it's more gold. Yes this is true, but more of a one time move. And you will be having your main troops there for a few days. It's cheaper to have your own spot closer than borrowing. Also saves time during the moving of troops. After a few days and having your troops in a friends city can start to get costly. Having that little war city will make it so you have a closer resting spot.
Goals for EACH city:
* HIDEOUT: 25-32
* TOWNHALL: 25
* TRADEPORT: 20
* WALLS: 25
* GOV RESIDENCE: Always one higher than what you have for current cities. That way you can build mobile cities
* PILLAGING CREW
* Atleast one ship
* WINE: 50K FOR EACH CITY (once you get low to about 10k pillage again. To run out of wine puts you back because it goes negative more than what it goes positive once you fix it)
* Overall you want 15million gold
* 150 TRANSPORTERS
